Dr. Jamil Ahmad (Chitrali) is Professor of Sociology at Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Peshawar, Pakistan. He has a diverse personality with academic and creative arts attributes combined. He did his PhD in Sociology from University of Peshawar on Oct 11, 2013. Was a graduate of Peshawar University in 1998 and passed Master in Social Anthropology with distinction from department of sociology and Anthropology University of Peshawar. Had courses of PhD level from Area Study Centre (Central Asian Studies with focus on Afghanistan) in 2003-04 and MS level courses in Summer 2008-09 from University of Lund, Sweden in Gender Studies. He conducted various research projects and earned good respect in international Community travelling for conferences and field works and other research events from Afghanistan, Iran, India to Germany, Australia, Turkey, brazil etc. He was International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) Fellow to USA in August 2017 on Countering Violent Extremism.

Dr. Jamil Ahmad remained founding Director Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Peshawar and signed MoUs with Government of Pakistan, Brazil, Canada and Unites States of America. Serving since May 2002 at University of Peshawar remained Two Times Elected Member of Syndicate, Academic Council, Senate and President of Peshawar University Teachers Association and manage to raise funds worth 60 million for various projects from Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, UNDP and other donors.

He remained Director of Students Societies and is currently Organizer of Cultural & Dramatic Society, University of Peshawar. On his credit are various creative arts programs and managed to stage Drama at Agha Khan Auditorium on The concept of Peace. He remained drama Artist, Script Writer and Director for various plays on aired on State Run TV channel PTV in 1990s.

Dr. Jamil remained Project Lead for Certificate course/Training on Conflict management, mediation and peacebuilding”  Rule of Law Program, UNDP at IPCS, University of Peshawar Since December 2016 till date. He was Social Development Specialist, ESIA, Balakot Hydro Power Project (HBP short term assignment for ADB) April-August 2017. Further He is Principal Investigator, HEC funded short term Research Project titled ”Labor Mapping in District Peshawar” July-December 2017. He is Designated Official for UNDP Project titled VPPD at IPCS, University of Peshawar since October 2016 for a period of three years.

Dr. Jamil also worked as Consultant/Senior Sociologist with Hagler Bailley Pakistan on Rapid Rural Appraisal and Socio-economic Impact Assessment of Balakot Hydro Electricity Project (2017). The Client was ADB; Bamiyan Coal Mine Electricity Project, Bamiyan, Afghanistan (2012) Aynak Copper Mine Project, Logar Afghanistan (2010-11). The Client was MCC, China.

 

He was Regional Supervisor for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and Gilgit Baltistan in a joint Research with SEDCO Islamabad, Lahore School of Economics and Oxford University in a Research on Local Support Organization Profiling in Pakistan-A Baseline Survey, in August-October 2014. Facilitated SEDCO Islamabad as Consultant on Tehsil Based FATA Profiling in 5 Agencies namely Mohmand, Khyber, Bajaur, South Waziristan and Kurram Agencies, Pakistan in 2010-11. Member with Research Group on ’Voilence in Schools’ , International Centre for Voilence Research, Bielefeld University, Germany with 5 years funding by DFG (2008-13).

Dr. Jamil Ahmad has wide experience of working with multiple partners on high risk groups and in diverse situations in communities with different cultures and sub cultures, particularly in Pashtun region from north to south. He also worked as Site Coordinator for 2nd and 3rd Round Surveillance on HIV/AIDS in NWFP, Peshawar IBBS Survey and Special Mapping of Home based and Koti Khana Based Female Sex Workers (2006-08). Conducted Rapid Need Assessment Survey for Anti Narcotics Force through DOST Foundation in April, 2002. Conducted Mapping on Street Drug Addicts with Nijat for Dost Foundation in Peshawar in January 2001. Conducted Base Line Survey on Missing Families of Afghan War in all Districts of NWFP for ICRC and IFRCS through Pakistan Red Crescent Society as Provincial Program Officer April-June 2000. Conducted Survey on Juvenile Delinquency in 11 District Prisons and 3 Central Prisons of NWFP in 1999-2000

He has 37 research publications, two book chapters, teaching at Rio De Janerio Brazil and presenting research papers on diverse cultural aspects of Pashtun society at global forums in his past 20 years of teaching and research experience since 2000.
